L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

I saw more ripeness and a higher impact of the élevage in the 2017 PS compared with the regular Aalto. The year was quite challenging, and they had less grapes but more or less from the same villages: La Aguilera, La Horra, Baños... It's spicy, smoky and toasty, very exuberant and showy, ripe and powerful. The wine went through malolactic in oak and matured in new barriques until bottling. There are plenty of tannins and oak-related flavors. This has a very specific style: ripe, powerful and generously oaked. For fans of the style. Some 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019. - Luis Gutiérrez.

Decanter:

Mariano García’s wines are not for drinking young. His lengthy residence at Vega Sicilia proved that. At Aalto he has proved the same, and especially with the top PS wine. The 2017 is as expected bright with fine oak, but the plump, sweet fruit makes it approachable. The 2011 sparkles: the oak is integrated. A polished wine, worth the wait. Drinking Window 2019 - 2030. - Sarah Jane Evans MW.

Tim Atkin:

First produced in 2000, with no wine made in 2002 and 2007, PS is Aalto's top wine. Sourced from La Horra and La Aguilera in 2017, it does malolactic in barrel before ageing in 100% new French oak. The result is bolder, riper and more concentrated than the regular bottling with layers of red fruits, notes of liquorice and toast, structured tannins and racy acidity. Built to last and will certainly do so. 2022-32
