Description

The Wine Advocate:

The blend of the 2017 12 Volts has a little more Syrah than usual, coming down to 50% Callet and Fogoneu with 30% Syrah and 10% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It's from a warm and early year, and the style is slowly changing toward more freshness within the Mediterranean profile. The Syrah fermented with carbonic maceration, which boosts the fruit of the blend. At the same time, Syrah produced like that tends to have more of a reductive personality, and it shows in the wine, which benefits from being decanted in advance or let to breathe in the glass. After sitting in the glass for ten minutes, it is juicy, Mediterranean and expressive, with a round palate. It has integrated oak that shows less and less; they are using a smaller percentage of new oak and also going for larger barrels, as they think this is what is needed in the Mediterranean to preserve the freshness. It's quite classical and balanced, a little in the style of the 2014, after some experimental changes in 2015 and 2016 to go back to the more classical Mediterranean profile. 45,000 bottles were filled in June 2018.
