L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

I tasted two vintages of the old-vine, Garnacha-based blend with about15% Syrah, 10% Tempranillo and 5% Cariñena, which in Calatayud is called Mazuelo (the same as in Rioja), including the cooler 2013 Manga del Brujo. 2013 was a very long harvest and they didn't finish harvesting until mid-November as the grapes ripened very slowly. Robertson considers it one of the best years he's seen in Calatayud. It fermented in concrete vats and aged mostly in concrete, with just a small portion of the blend aged in oak, mostly the Tempranillo. The wine has developed certain complexity in the nose, certain elegance and very good balance. It's very balsamic and showy, the nose is very attractive and kept changing in the glass. The palate is very fresh and vibrant, with some tannins that provide structure. Very balanced overall. This is the first label he ever released in Spain. 90,000 bottles produced.
